Sammersmith Bridge

I went up to London today to watch Hammersmith Bridge get renamed as a tribute to my nephew Sam Alexander who was killed in Afghanistan a few months ago. I was half expecting to be coerced into jumping off as he used to do for fun in his teens. I even had a spare pair of clothes and towel just in case. Fortunately, it was low tide as last time he jumped off he was arrested for attempted suicide. The Bridge renaming was a really nice gesture by his London mates and certainly a whole lot less emotional than the ceremony at Wootton Bassett and his funeral in Plymouth.

    Hi Justin,

I was very pleased to see this up so quickly. It was a fantastic tribute on Saturday! I have a video which I will upload this week of all of us letting the balloons go. I was also there when Sam jumped off Sammersmith Bridge with Steve but that must have been a different time because Sam didn’t get arrested on that occasion.

    Rest in Peace Sam

Gabriel … shame there aren’t photos from the original jumping off but was really great to see Sam’s London mates show up at this and other ceremonies. They was definitely a whole lotta love.
