The Independent has put a panel together to help you find the the best places to camp in the UK. Panelists included Juliette Dyke, founder of www.freshairfix.com; Rhian Evans, director and co-founder of camping booking site www.campingninja.com; Dan Yates, managing director of campsite guide www.pitchup.com; Jonathan Knight, editor of Punk Publishing’s Cool Camping guides, www.coolcamping.co.uk; and Tess Carr, co-founder of www.thehappycampers.co.uk. Interesting choice of arbiters given some are more about quantity than quality, and others don’t seem that active now, but good to see that some of the local East Sussex sites like Wowo, Dernwood and Hidden Spring Farm that we’ve mentioned here get included. Can’t help thinking that his will only make it harder to stay at them as has happened with the ever popular Blackberry Wood, where you now have to book a year in advance. There weren’t any real secrets in the list and no shortage of log cabins, tipis, wigwams, bell tents and Mongolian yurts. So glamping is still very much alive and kicking. Worth a look though.
